DIY Lunch/Snack Recipe: Tuna Stuffed Avocados

Avocados! Those, and tuna… and yoghurt!

Many people shun avocados because of its high fat content. However, it’s mostly monounsaturated fat, which is actually good for the heart! Besides that, avocados also have more potassium than bananas, are rich in Vitamins B, E and K, and are high in fiber content. Need another reason to eat avocados? They are extremely yummy!

I had an avocado smoothie recently, but I found it to be a little too sweet (the store assistant added some sugar and used full cream milk in the smoothie! *gasp*) – I think I may try my hand at making one myself using low-fat milk and no sugar. Honestly though, I like avocados best when sliced and with low-fat milk. :)

Tuna, another of my favourite foods, is an excellent source of lean protein, Omega 3, and Vitamin B. I like to buy canned tuna in water (Skye thinks I’m nuts). Totally home-made tuna sandwiches!

And yoghurt – probably one of the best foods ever – has live bacterial cultures (the good ones!) and is high in calcium. My favourite yogurt is Marigold’s Non Fat Yoghurt. Yoghurt makes a good dressing in place of mayonnaise, too.

Well, if you’re just like me, you’ll probably love what I’m gonna share today! Combine three of my favourite foods, and what do you get? Tuna stuffed avocados!

You will need:

  • About 150g of tuna flakes (I used Ayam Brand’s Tuna Flakes in Water)
  • About 100g of plain yoghurt (I used Emmi’s Swiss Premium Plain Low Fat Yoghurt – my favourite brand was not available)
  • Two ripe avocados
  • Salt and pepper to taste (optional)
